A depiction of Ragout by Barbara of Bale.

If you are hard pressed to go, please have some stew before you leave.

The boat cabin of Ragout

Ragout is an old dwarf, who's face and beard are completely covered by mushrooms. He believes it was a curse he contracted when he got stranded inside of Remeteraak's shell.

He was the sole survivor of a shipwreck caused by Remeteraak, and although he wants to be free from his shell, he does not know how that could be done. He since has escaped the crazy fanatism of the fish-men and has retired into this great turned over ship, where he stews what he can find to eat, including pieces of his own body "for taste" as he puts it.

Ragout can provide a crude patchwork map with what he knows of the shell, including the road, always uphill to Dimina's garden, an elf Druid who was the first to help Ragout when he arrived here.

He also warns the PCs that every now and then Remeteraak does "digestion" and "all that is here, ends up further up the shell!". By this he means that the monster actually pushes all the junk upwards with boat shacks, the fish-men village and all the rest of it. "It's a mighty fierce time for all of us dwellers, as we have to start all over".

Of course as he finishes saying these things, a digestion phase takes place; the main dangers are falling into the acit swamp outside Ragout's hut or being crushed by the boat-cabin or other boats as they simply get shoved by other debris and boats uphill into the dark cavern.
