Dreaming triff
A surreal place where thoughts have power beyond the thinker and dreams manifest beyond the dreamer. There are many unkempt cobbled roads that crisscross the triff with determination, only to seem to split and merge into other roads that are always different and bordered with tempting rewards for those willing to venture beyond the beaten path. Those who leave the road in this triff are mostly never seen again.
Travelers and merchants know that it is safer to travel in small caravans through the winding cobbled roads here. Large enough to defend against the dream beasts, that seem to come from peoples fears and dreams. And small enough to not dream too many of these monsters, should they appear.
It is common in this triff to dream someone else's dream and feel that persons desires and fears. Or for all travelers in a caravan to dream the same dream and face sinister creatures, those who die in the dreams cannot wake up until removed from the triffs grounds.
The Giant Heads
Some travelers have reported seeing their own head sprout from the ground, a head as big a a house. The head will then speak of treasures and open its mouth inviting the traveler to enter... There are no records of someone coming back out of their own head.
The maze of ego
When a group dreams a dream, the dreamers with greatest imagination will see their own head appear. If they enter inside of themselves, there is a world where there is only that ego, and everything and everyone in this reality is the same as the mind of the dreamer. In a reality where everything is oneself the dreamer cannot escape, every door is a self-door, every exit a self-exit, every flower and every stone as self-flower or self-stone.
In this maze there is one great treasure that is different for every person, this object it is always something that will give the dreamer great self-confidence and perspective. Things like a lost sense of belonging, or the ability to always know true north or the exact time of day.
To escape the maze use one of these examples...
...Position two self-mirrors opposite of each other with a self-door in between. When the door is opened and infinite reflections appear, the dreamer can become the last of the reflections and close the self-door leaving itself at the other side of where it was before. This will pull the dreamer out of the dream.
...To dream of the same giant head and dream backwards, dreaming that the self-head (the self-self-head) opens its mouth and a self-self walks out of it.
The Dreaming Treasure
It is said that at the center of the triff, a place that all roads fail to lead to. There is a doorway to a vast labyrinth filled with treasures of all the desires of those who have dreamed in the triff. This place is said to also contain secrets and knowledge beyond dreams. The only problem seems to be that no one who has set off to find it has ever returned.
The Malebolge
This labyrinth is not one place. It cannot be entered through a door, instead, the entrance must be dreamed of, and then once entered several terrible things occur to the minds of those in it.
First, the dreamer must face themselves in other threads of their same fate, the righteous meet their twisted self, the meek meet the bold and so on.
Secondly, the Malebolge is a maze of the mind, where one can wake only to find that one is still dreaming. Many die in the labyrinth to awake to another dream, others dream their death and find that they will never wake again. These last ones become dreamilings, ghosts who do not know they are dead and who can dreamwalk into another persons dreams.
Third is the mind of Malebolge, originally a plainwalker and maybe the first of the dreamlings. This mind has absolute power over the realities of its home and over all the dreamlings there. No dream is dreamt in the Dreaming triff without Malebolge's mind eye watching, hidden just beyond the dreamers awareness.
